Dino PC Elmisaur 2600 review

£725 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Dino PC

Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

Featuring the only Core i7 processor in the £750 desktop PC category, Dino PC’s Elmisaur 2600 stormed our WorldBench 6 speed test with 167 points.

Featuring the only Core i7 processor in the category, Dino PC’s Elmisaur 2600 stormed our WorldBench 6 speed test with 167 points. Yet it scored only two points more than the Best Buy Chillblast, which has potential for extra speed through overclocking.

Some cost-cutting measures have been essential in budgeting for the powerful processor. The Dino PC Elmisaur 2600's 21.5in AOC monitor is not only smaller than the 23.6in displays of the competition, but has inferior image quality.

The Dino PC Elmisaur 2600 has also taken a hit in the graphics department, with its nVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti delivering slower framerates than the GTX 560 Ti and ATI Radeon HD 6870 cards seen elsewhere.

Other specifications are strong, with the Dino PC Elmisaur 2600 offering 8GB of RAM and a Z68-chipset motherboard. The latter allows access to the processor’s accelerated video-conversion capabilities and automatic switching between the integrated and dedicated graphics, reducing power consumption and noise.

We discussed our concerns with Dino PC, which has made available a £749 PC with a GTX 560 graphics card and an otherwise matching specification. We recommend also upgrading to a Core i7-2600K processor to take full advantage of the Dino PC Elmisaur 2600's motherboard.

  • Overall: We give this item 8 of 10 overall

The Dino PC Elmisaur 2600 has the fastest processor as standard and one of the better motherboards. But its specification is unbalanced, with inferior graphics performance and a smaller monitor.
