Palicomp Phoenix i7 Phantom review

£999 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Palicomp

Our Rating: We rate this 3.5 out of 5

Probably the most impressive-looking PC in this group, Palicomp's Phoenix i7 Phantom uses the Cooler Master CM690 Advance II system case to good effect. Devoid of flashy bits and pieces and angular whatnots, this case focuses on functionality and useful features.

Its mesh front panel and curved edges provide both cooling and an element of style. USB, eSATA and audio jacks are provided on top of the Palicomp Phoenix i7 Phantom's case for easy access, and behind a removable flap sits a convenient SATA dock. Inside, you get a graphics card support bracket, dust filters and plenty of fan-mounting points (three have fans installed as standard).

Six perpendicular and four tool-free drive bays are provided; one is occupied by the Palicomp Phoenix i7 Phantom's Blu-ray/DVD combo drive.

A multiplier-unlocked Core i7-2600K processor is installed in a premium Asus P8P67 Pro motherboard, resulting in a 162-point score in WorldBench 6. All four memory slots are in use by the Palicomp Phoenix i7 Phantom PC's 8GB of DDR3 RAM. A 1.5TB hard drive is also provided, which offers 50 percent more capacity than any of the competition.

The Palicomp Phoenix i7 Phantom's ATI Radeon HD 6950 graphics card provides similar performance to the nVidia GTX 560 Ti, but often has the edge in speed – plus double the memory.

We’ve seen better displays than the 23.6in HKC bundled at this price, but the Palicomp Phoenix i7 Phantom PC's speaker set compensates a little.
