Manufacturer: Dino PC

Our Rating: We rate this 3.5 out of 5

The only PC in this group test not to plump for a Core i7-950 processor and an X58-chipset-based motherboard, the DinoPC Fermisaur is powered by a Core i7-870 CPU and uses a P55-chipset motherboard.

These components are closely matched in price and performance, but the DinoPC Fermisaur 870 power desktop PC's setup allows memory modules to be installed in pairs rather than threes. Thus the Fermisaur comes with a huge 8GB of DDR3 RAM – although its speed benchmark results wouldn’t suggest this, with the DinoPC lacking the performance boost obtainable from using triple-channel memory. Neither will you be able to add extra graphics cards.

The DinoPC Fermisaur 870 power desktop PC scored a still very fast 146 points in WorldBench 6, placing it on a par with the Core i7-950-powered Palicomp at the bottom of the speed table.

While it’s not the best performer, the DinoPC Fermisaur 870 power desktop PC packs an enormous 2TB hard drive, a set of external speakers, and by far the nicest – and largest – monitor of the group. Pleasingly, a Blu-ray drive complements this 25in full-HD display.

The DinoPC Fermisaur 870 power desktop PC's graphics are provided by an nVidia GeForce GTX 460. This card is slightly slower than the ATI Radeon HD 5850 found in the competition, which is particularly noticeable when you raise the detail settings a notch.
