£1,499 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Palicomp

Our Rating: We rate this 3.5 out of 5

Palicomp’s Core i7 Blitz 960-24 is the fastest power desktop PC in this round-up, but also the most expensive. It combines triple-channel memory with a blazingly fast 3.2GHz clock speed to storm ahead in our WorldBench 6 speed tests.

Palicomp's Core i7 Blitz 960-24 is the fastest power desktop PC in this round-up, but also the most expensive. It combines triple-channel memory with a blazingly fast 3.2GHz clock speed to storm ahead in our WorldBench 6 speed tests.

Palicomp's Core i7 Blitz 960-24 is the fastest PC in this round-up, but also the most expensive. Based on an Intel Core i7 960 processor, the Palicomp combines triple-channel memory with a blazingly fast 3.2GHz clock speed to storm ahead in our WorldBench 6 speed tests. It recorded an astonishing 147 points.

Performance is assisted by combining a pair of 500GB hard drives into a high-speed Raid 0 array. The Palicomp Core i7 Blitz 960-24 provides a third 1TB drive for backups, delivering 2TB of total storage. You also get 6GB of RAM, the 64bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium and an ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card.

The Palicomp Core i7 Blitz 960-24 uses the same Asus P6T SE motherboard as the Arbico. It offers support for up to three ATI graphics cards in CrossFireX mode, although the supplied Radeon HD 5870 is already one of the fastest cards on the market.

Despite using the rather roomy Cooler Master Scout system case, the Palicomp Core i7 Blitz 960-24's interior feels somewhat cramped. To be fair, when you have three hard drives, a DVD burner and a Blu-ray drive installed, it's bound to look a little full. A large Akasa processor cooler has also been fitted, which helps keep the processor and memory cool while assisting with overclocking, should you wish to attempt this.

The Palicomp Core i7 Blitz 960-24's Scout case offers four front-facing USB ports, an eSATA connector and a pair of audio sockets.

The Palicomp Core i7 Blitz 960-24 is finished off with a pair of stereo speakers and a subwoofer, and an excellent 24in Acer V243H display with a stylish thin bezel and full-HD support.

  • Overall: We give this item 7 of 10 overall

The Palicomp Core i7 Blitz 960-24 is designed for performance, which it delivers in spades. But at this price we’d like to see surround-sound speakers and an SSD.
