If you haven't got the space for a full PC setup, but still want decent performance and screen size, then a desktop replacement such as the Toshiba Satellite P200-17C is ideal.
You wouldn't want to carry the Toshiba Satellite P200-17C much further than from one room to another, but you still get a compact system that can be packed away at the end of the day.
The Toshiba Satellite P200-17C isn't the fastest machine available, but it makes the most of its 1.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 processor and generous 2GB of RAM, achieving a reasonable WorldBench 6 score of 66. When it comes to gaming, it had a decent go and its 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 processor managed to rack up 12fps (frames per second) running our intensive graphics benchmark.
There's plenty of space to store your files on the Toshiba Satellite P200-17C's 200GB hard drive and a dual-format DVD writer is included for backup. The 17.1in glossy display offers vibrant colour reproduction, but like most displays of this type is quite reflective.
The Toshiba Satellite P200-17C also stretches to a widescreen resolution of only 1,440x900 which is fine for desktop applications, but leaves itf short of the 1,920x1,080 resolution needed for full 1080p HD (high-definition) playback. However, Toshiba has included an HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) so you could easily hook it up to an HDTV.
Battery life is reasonable at 111 minutes, so you'll at least be able to get a decent amount of work done before having to plug the Toshiba Satellite P200-17C in. Design-wise, the Toshiba Satellite P200-17C is fantastic to look at and Toshiba has made the most of the additional space available by including a numeric keypad to the right of the keyboard.
We were astonished to find Toshiba had managed to cram in six USB ports on to he Toshiba Satellite P200-17C, sensibly split with two on the left and four on the right.
