Damson Cisor review

£75 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Damson Audio

Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

The Damson Cisor is a small speaker with big, booming bass. Read our review to find out more.

There are a number of small speaker units that produce sound by resonating sound waves through the solid surface beneath them, but the new Cisor is one of the first we’ve seen that also includes Bluetooth wireless streaming. See all audio reviews.

Available in a variety of different colours, the Cisor consists of a very compact aluminium cylinder that measures just 60mm high and 55mm in diameter. It looks very much like a small can of beans – and weighs almost as much, too, at a hefty 350g. Even so, the compact design means that it’s very easy to slip into a backpack, or even a jacket pocket, when you want to carry it around with you. See also Group test: what's the best speaker set?

As long as it’s resting on a firm, flat surface the Cisor does manage to produce a surprisingly full and powerful sound. Damson boasts about the Cisor’s “serious bass”, and the bass on dance tracks such as Kylie’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head really is quite pronounced. Take a look at the Libratone Lounge AirPlay speaker too.

In fact, there were times when the bass was too strong. When resting on a heavy wooden table the bass vibrations started to overwhelm the higher frequencies – and almost had the Cisor toppling over the edge of the table. However, the Bluetooth streaming does at least mean that you’re free to move the Cisor around until you find the surface that gives you the best results. The built-in rechargeable battery only lasts for about four hours when using Bluetooth, but the Cisor also includes a conventional audio cable that allows the battery to stretch to a more respectable nine hours.

  • Overall: We give this item 8 of 10 overall

The bass does get a bit out of control at times, but the Cisor is certainly one of the best of this new breed of ‘resonating’ speakers. Its compact design and Bluetooth streaming also help to make the Cisor a good option if you’re looking for a really portable speaker that you can carry around in a backpack or a small travel bag.
