We found the speaker to be ideal for slipping into a bag and for using it on-the-go. Measuring 318x38x130mm and weighing just 425g, the speaker’s design and shape can be likened to a ladies’ clutch bag, ensuring it lives up to its portable name. For a distinct look, the speaker is black, with a glossy insert available in red, black or teal. The insert features a power button along with volume controls and the ability to switch between the iPod or iPhone and any device connected to the speaker via the auxiliary port. Skipping forward and back through tracks and accessing the menus can be done using the remote control that comes bundled with the speaker.
The remote also offers an alternative way to adjust the volume and switching the power on or off, as well as three pre-set graphic equaliser modes; Pop, Rock and Hip Hop to adjust the sound from the speaker. We loved the fact the remote control is magnetic and can be stored behind the flip out stand so it doesn’t get misplaced.

The Altec Lansing inMotion iMT630, which is compatible with all models of iPhone and iPod except the Shuffle, can be powered by the mains or used on-the-go thanks to its internal rechargeable battery, which according to Altec Lansing offers up to seven hours of playback. Furthermore, when the speaker is connected to main power it will also charge the user's iPod or iPhone.
Dual 2in drivers ensure the sound is crisp and clear, even when cranked up to full volume, and the speaker automatically mutes music when a call comes through while your iPhone is docked. The flip-out stand is sturdy and certainly wouldn’t suffer from a heavy-handed user. We also love the fact the actual dock can be pushed in leaving it flush to the speaker itself, ensuring it isn’t damaged during transportation.
We also love the free apps that iPhone and iPod touch users can download from the iTunes app store to enhance the features of the speaker. Music Mood allows users to customise the sound from the inMotion iMT630 through a graphic equaliser while Alarm Rock provides an alarm clock function.
