Altec Lansing's Octiv 102 is a sleek black iPod dock. Its unusual parallelogram shape helps it to fit snug on a bedside cabinet or in a lounge corner.

Altec Lansing's Octiv 102 is a sleek black iPod dock with an unusual parallelogram shape, which gives it a modern, fresh look. It measures just 100x103x95mm, ensuing it’ll easily fit on a bedside cabinet or in a small space in a lounge.

The iPod dock, which weighs 317g, is compatible with all versions of iPod and iPhone. The Altec Lansing Octiv 102 will charge a connected iPod or iPhone - verified by an LED on the dock - while playing audio through its 3in speaker.

At £39, the Altec Lansing Octiv 102 iPod dock offers good value for money. It lets you crank up the music, without bass notes distorting. With no hardware buttons on the device itself, you use the controls on the iPod or iPhone to play, pause and skip tracks.

Apple iPhone and iPod touch users can turn the Altec Lansing Octiv 102 into an alarm clock using a free app. Alarm Rock, which is free to download from the App Store, displays the time on the connected device's screen. Alarms can be scheduled through the app, which lets you choose from a set of sounds or tracks stored on the device to wake up to. We also loved the fact you can customise the app with different themes and colours.

An auxiliary port means other MP3 players or CD players can be connected to the Altec Lansing Octiv 102 iPod dock and their content played through the speaker.
