Nero Video Premium HD is a video-editing package that offers good social media integration, disc burning and fast editing capabilities.

There is a wide selection of disc burning options on offer when you first open the Nero Vision editing component of Nero Video Premium HD. You can create a video in resolutions up to full HD while audio options include support for 5.1 surround sound. Once chosen, the Nero Vision component opens on a main editing interface, with a large main viewer window and a choice of timeline or storyboard.

The My Media sections offer tabs for assembling your video, audio and photo files, as well clip art and music. Import options here include the novel option to download from My Nero, an online community of users who have uploaded their productions to the web. You can also capture directly from a connected camera such as a webcam. However some of the import options, such as AVCHD import from hard disc, require activation of a third-party utility. Even then the application failed to find the files on our HD camcorder. We had to import them as normal files.

Editing and playback from timeline and storyboard are pretty good. Clips can have video trimmed and audio adjusted in their own pop-up windows. Elsewhere there are palettes for applying effects, such as noise reduction, chroma key or vintage film looks, as well as title text and transitions. A twirl-down properties panel allows you to adjust and animate any of the above. A fair-sized collection of templates, effects, movies and music is bundled in the suite.

Choosing from Nero Video Premium HD's range of themes

There are also controls for adding multiple Picture in Picture clips or audio voiceovers, as well as the Themes utility, an example of automatic or 'smart' movie making. You're offered a choice of templates for graphic overlays (festivities, romantic, seasonal, and so on) plus the choice to modify the movie with pan & zoom or edit according to detected scenes and music beats.

Once created, you can adjust the various components with ease, using onscreen guides for better positioning in the viewer. Workflow overall seems to benefit greatly from Nero's background rendering.

Export options include direct to disc movies, as well as uploading to the aforementioned My Nero, YouTube and Facebook as well as Blu-ray, Flash and other video formats.
