Billed as a ‘triple writer’, Lite-On’s LH-2B1S provides up to two-speed Blu-ray writing and is compatible with all the major DVD and CD formats. The front of the drive houses three LEDs, denoting disc activity and showing the type of media in use.

Physically more compact than the LG GBW-H10N Blu-ray Disc drive, the Lite-On LH-2B1S’s Sata interface bypasses the potential pitfalls associated with IDE connections.

The Lite-On LH-2B1S will burn writeable and rewriteable Blu-ray discs but, despite what its manual implies, only to single layer media.

When writing DVDs, the Lite-On LH-2B1S isn’t able to match the speeds of the fastest DVD burners. At its maximum 12-speed, it’ll take a minute-and-a-half extra per 4.7GB DVD. Plus it’s limited to four-speed writing on 8.5GB media and is quite fussy about Double Layer +R media, successfully writing to just one out of three brands in our tests.
