Wireless networking and updates to Microsoft's media player mean that sharing photos, videos and TV around the home is becoming simpler than ever. CyberLink Live takes this a step further by making it possible to share these media from any computer via the internet.

To use CyberLink Live, you will have to download the free server software from the website and set up an account. While CyberLink Live is generally easy to use once installed, a couple of confusing instructions meant that our wireless router wouldn't configure with the CyberLink Live server until we had an account - although the setup routine implies that you need a server connection before registration takes place. After this glitch, CyberLink Live worked perfectly with each connection.

Once the server is up and running, and you have identified shared folders, simply login to your online account. The CyberLink Live beta we tested is still under development but the animated interface is a pleasure to use, allowing you to access other documents as well as your media files. It is possible to invite friends to share these, too, providing they download the CyberLink Live software and set up their own accounts.

Performance is excellent from the CyberLink Live website, with such speedy transfer of data that even watching video is easy. Obviously the quality of your connection will affect this, but once CyberLink Live was up and running we found it to run without problems.

OUR VERDICT

This is one of those applications that is great fun, and the inclusion of filesharing documents across the internet would have made it a killer application as a free download. There are other document and file sharing tools, but several charge a monthly subscription and none have such a dynamic interface. The potential confusion around installation needs to be ironed out, but then CyberLink Live will be the perfect tool for sharing media.
