The full version of Bullguard Internet Security includes firewall, antivirus and antispyware applications. However, the main feature distinguishing this from other suites is its online backup facilities. Should you be happy with your existing antivirus and firewall setup, you can bolt on Bullguard's backup feature with this standalone tool.

Online backup has become a real growth area in recent years. Which is quite understandable, since a good online backup service is simple to use and means you needn't worry about having enough disk space for storage. And storing your valuable data offsite provides extra protection should your home or business be hit by flood, fire or theft. There are a number of online backup services, but these won't integrate within your OS as effectively.

The interface for Bullguard Backup is extremely slick and immensely easy to use. Backups can be saved to your local hard drive or stored on Bullguard's online backup servers. 1GB of online space is included in the standard price, although you can increase the amount of space provided (up to a maximum of 5GB) by clicking on the Upgrade Now link. Each additional gigabyte costs £10.

Novices can employ a wizard to back up their files, automatically configuring incremental backups to take place at a set time - daily or weekly. Plus, the program has integrated support to safeguard your email data providing you use Outlook or Outlook Express. Because it's integrated within Windows, you can access your data from within Explorer, but the program allows you to restore your files to any PC with an internet connection from its website, too.

OUR VERDICT

If all you want is some online storage space then there are some more generous options available, but none are as slick as this. Even those alternatives which do integrate well with Windows - for example, Bulldog Backup - require far more effort to configure. For 5GB of storage the program becomes a little expensive to use, but otherwise it's reasonably priced.
