The HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 is a proper business inkjet printer. It's not cheap, but the HP OfficeJet Pro L7780's feature set and performance are really very good.

Anyone thinking the falling prices of laser printers meant the day of the inkjet was almost through would do well to look at the sturdy business-oriented printers PC Advisor has reviewed in recent times. Besides the rather different Ricoh (Ricoh Aficio GX3000 gel-based printer review), we've got this £364 heavyweight from inkjet king HP - the HP OfficeJet Pro L7780.

The HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 packs in some impressive features. Indeed, small-business users may be more interested in one of the cheaper models in this range. While the HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 covers everything, you can get the L7580 and L7680 for £234 and £288 respectively.

The HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 offers stronger paper handling than the cheaper models, and cleans up on connectivity options. While the L7580 and L7680 make do with ethernet and fax facilities, the HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 bolts on Wi-Fi access, making it perfect for the wireless office network. (All three printers can be upgraded to Bluetooth.) For many a business, normal wired network facilities are more than enough, but the HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 goes that little bit further.

The HP OfficeJet Pro L7780's memory card reader is very versatile, and has plenty of options for letting you select the right images in as little time as possible.

Few printers come with as many add-ins as the HP OfficeJet Pro L7780. Besides the usual quartet of black and colour cartridges, the HP includes a couple of additional printheads. The extra effort is worth it, since the quality of the HP OfficeJet Pro L7780's colour printing is extremely smooth. The results in draft mode are surprisingly strong and easy on the eye given the high speed: 10.3ppm (pages per minute). The colours aren't perfectly vivid in the best mode (a good 3ppm), but the results are still good.

As the HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 is a proper business printer, it's very impressive on text, producing crisp, sharp characters at the highest end. Draft mode isn't at all bad and the Normal mode produces professional results at a fast speed of 11.1ppm.

The HP OfficeJet Pro L7780's scanning facilities are again very good. Reproduction is precise and the colours, for the most part, were very realistic. You can even scan to specific network folders. This is a nice touch that will appeal to business customers.
