A supremely fast external hard drive enclosure, the WiebeTech ToughTech XE Mini boasts a pair of FireWire 800 ports and has an eSATA interface as well as USB.

The WiebeTech ToughTech XE Mini works with Linux operating systems, as well as Windows and Mac OS and is available with a prefitted drive, as here, or as a bare enclosure so you can fit the drive you wish.

It's therefore safe to say WiebeTech has all bases covered, barring the incoming USB 3.0 technology. The WiebeTech ToughTech XE Mini's USB connection, which is underpowered, is really the only weak point of what is a really solid drive.

The WiebeTech ToughTech XE Mini is practically compact rather than lightweight and you're best off using it plugged in to the mains. With so many connection options making it invaluable for backing up camcorders as well as computers of every stripe, you probably won't want to let it out of your sight anyway.

Just be sure to add some form of encryption or intrusion protection; Wiebech supplies only its ProSoft Data Backup app to get you started with the WiebeTech ToughTech XE Mini.
