From the cheery "Hello" sticker inside the box, to the superbly simple documentation, the 750GB Seagate FreeAgent Pro hard drive fills you with such confidence that the only delay you might encounter while setting it up is a brief pause to feel smug about having made the right purchasing decision.

Its striking aluminium design is obviously built to be looked at. On powering up the Seagate FreeAgent Pro the chocolate-brown casing is lit with a warm yellow glow that seems to emanate from inside the device as though it were powered by coal.

Of course, you have the option to turn off these lights as part of the Seagate FreeAgent Pro's power-management functionality.

Plugging in the drive triggers an automatic installation of FreeAgent Pro Tools, including AutoBackup software. AutoBackup takes you though configuring your backup step-by-step. It's powered by the same Memeo engine used by Buffalo's products.

The Seagate FreeAgent Pro's advanced functions include the ability to access your files from anywhere via the internet. It can copy files automatically to multiple locations and can maintain multiple revisions of you important files, allowing you to roll back to previous versions.

The drive supports USB 2.0 and eSata connections, with dual FireWire 400 ports available via a supplied adapter. If you don't need FireWire, you can save a little money by purchasing the Seagate FreeAgent Pro without this adaptor.
