Mesh is a firm that is known to provide the latest technology for its more demanding customers. While this pushes up the cost of systems, value isn't something that enters the equation when you're getting the best features money can buy.

The Titan X2 G70 is one such system. It's packed with the best graphics kit in town - nVidia's new 7800GTX chip - and powered by AMD's scorching DualCore Athlon 64 X2 4800+. In terms of sheer performance, the Titan doesn't disappoint, picking up 109 WorldBench points. And when software that makes the most of dual-core processing is released, you'll really see a difference.

The 256MB nVidia 7800GTX PCI Express graphics card maintained more than 114fps (frames per second) in Doom 3 at 1,280x1,024 - something no other card has come close to. We also commend Mesh for using the Asus A8N SLI Deluxe motherboard. This means you can save your pennies to buy another 7800GTX and use two in an SLI (scalable link interface) configuration.

With demanding hardware, heat problems are always a concern but the Titan's big side fan and grill-front fascia should cover that. We were also pleased to see the graphics card is long rather than thick, so it doesn't cover any of the other PCI slots.

There had to be some cutbacks, of course. A 300GB hard drive seems a bit stingy, the DVD-RW drive lacks -R DL (dual layer) support (although it is a quick burner), and there's no card reader. We'd also prefer ViewSonic's 19in VX924 flat-panel rather than the VX912, but that's us being picky.

OUR VERDICT

The pricey Matrix Titan X2 G70 isn't going to suit everyone. However, for graphics fanboys who can't wait for ATI's CrossFire technology to come out - and for anyone interested in a future-proofed system - this is a great buy.
