Based around a powerful 3.3GHz Core i5-2500K processor, the Eclipse Solar i525n560Ti delivered strong performance. The three WorldBench points it loses to Arbico and Chillblast aren’t worth quibbling about. This is a system which delivers performance to far exceed the requirements of most home users.

Gamers will love this system as it comes with the most powerful graphics card here, an nVidia GeForce 560 Ti. Only Chillblast’s Fusion Hotrod comes close on gaming performance. The system case suggests Eclipse has gamers in mind too, with its boy-racer looks.

Despite its relatively high price, the Eclpse Solar i525n560Ti isn’t at all impressive when it comes to build quality. The CoolerMaster Elite RC-430 looks smart from the outside, but lacks internal cable management found in better cases, even if Eclipse has taken the trouble to fasten all cables neatly. It also lacks perpendicular drive bays, although those provided are tool-free versions.

That gaming performance also comes at the cost of home-user friendly features such as Wi-Fi or a card reader. The supplied wired keyboard and mouse are insubstantial and disappointing when compared to those in systems costing £200 less.

Like most other PCs in this category, the Solar i525n560Ti is supplied with 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 1TB hard drive for system storage.

A full-HD 23.6in LED-backlit monitor from budget brand HKC is included, but still better than some basic models we see, and quite suitable for watching films from the system’s Blu-ray drive. A subwoofer is included with the Logitech LS21 stereo speakers, although this set is smaller than the S220 included with the CyberPower.

OUR VERDICT

Pricey but powerful, the Solar i525n560Ti blasts through applications, and also turns in impressive gaming performance. Combine this with a large monitor, Blu-ray player and Logitech speakers and you have an all-rounder of a system, marred principally by a flimsy gamers’ case and poor keyboard and mouse.
