Unfortunately, as a business PC at least, the Eclipse Fusion i3212r677 is simply too expensive. Its dual-core Intel Core i3-2120K processor is only a little faster than the version used in Arbico's Value 210 MX which costs many hundreds of pounds less.

Some of the money you'll shell out for the Eclipse Fusion i3212r677 goes on its discrete graphics card. The Radeon HD 6770 included here delivered good graphics performance. Most business users simply won't need this, but it may come in handy if you're thinking of setting up a dual- or triple-monitor system for a power user who needs to display a large amount of information at once. (However, in that case such users would also probably appreciate a faster CPU.)

The Eclipse Fusion i3212r677 comes with a 23.6in HKC 2249A display, which is larger than any other in the group, presenting text at a more comfortable size than a 22in display. It also incorporates internal speakers, so we were surprised to find a set of Logitech LS21 external stereo speakers also included in the package. They do give improved sound, but aren't necessary for a general-purpose business PC. See also: Group test: what's the best power PC?

Perhaps most surprising of all is the use of an Asus P8Z68V LE motherboard. Based on the Z68-Express chipset, this is a vastly superior motherboard to those using the budget H61 Express version. However, most of its extra features remain unused, making the added expense unnecessary.

An unimpressive cheap wired keyboard and mouse set is included with the Eclipse Fusion i3212r677, which would have been a better target for the budget devoted to the external speakers.

What we do like about this system is the compact CoolerMaster Elite RC-360 system case which, despite its compact dimensions, managed to make the Eclipse Fusion i3212r677 one of the quietest PCs of the group.

The Eclipse Fusion i3212R677 will be on sale no later than 5 January 2012.

OUR VERDICT

The Eclipse Fusion i3212r677 is a well-built PC with some unique features and the only PC with a powerful graphic subsystem. However, at this price we're used to seeing a much, much faster PC with considerably better components.
