The Infinity Achilles Elite from Eclipse is one of the more expensive PCs here and comes with a 3.2GHz Intel Core i5-3470 processor rather than the slightly faster Core i5-3570K we often see at this price. See Microsoft Windows 8 review.

It lets the PC comes in just below the scary £1000 mark. You could ignore such arbitrary psychological boundaries, forget the £1000 limit and get a 3570K. See also Chillblast Fusion Galaxy review.

But it does make a refreshing change to see other system components given priority over just the fastest CPU.
The decision seems to have paid off: its 1TB hard disk is complemented by a 60GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD which delivers a very measurable increase in performance in the PCMark 7 benchmark, making the Infinity Achilles Elite one of the fastest PCs overall despite its slower processor. Take a look at Braebo Hermes 8 review.

CyberPower has selected a Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H motherboard which uses Intel’s B75 Express business-oriented chipset. It provides support for USB 3.0 and SATA 6GBps while omitting RAID and SSD caching features found on the pricier Z77 Express boards. It also supports Intel’s Rapid Start Technology and Small Business Advantage features, such as after-hours backup and restore when the PC is turned off. Smart Connect Technology allows it to monitor your email and social networks while the system is asleep so everything is up-to-date when you start work in the morning.

You can also use the supplied LAN Optimizer program to prioritise different types of network traffic, so big downloads don’t slow down your web browsing.

It’s not all work and no play however, as the Infinity Achilles Elite comes with a Palit-brand nVidia GeForce GTX 660 graphics card, enabling the PC to play most modern games at reasonable speeds. Our gaming tests with Crysis came out a little behind systems fitted with an AMD Radeon 7850, but the slower CPU performance may be having an effect here as the GeForce card is generally a little faster than its AMD rival.

Also included is a LiteOn Blu-ray drive and a decent wired keyboard and mouse set from Logitech. You’ll have to add your own speakers though.

CyberPower has supplied an Iiyama touchscreen display with this system which is a handy when using Windows 8’s Metro interface. But it’s protruding bezel frame and limited two-point multi-touch system prevent it from delivering a full Windows 8 touch experience. Many gestures are all but impossible to perform.

OUR VERDICT

This PC is a great performer despite using a slightly slower processor. The Iiyama touchscreen isn’t the ideal Windows 8 input device but can assist you in getting around.
