Samsung R20 laptop review

We found the Samsung Q70 to be a better performer than the Samsung Q35 (read our Samsung Q35 review here), and the it showed up well in our WorldBench speed benchmark tests, hitting an excellent score of 78.

The Samsung Q70's framerate score of 21fps (frames per second) in our games tests didn’t impress quite as much, although this is still a decent figure.

The glossy screen is smaller than most, but the Samsung Q70 still displays images of a crisp quality. We found the viewing angles to be good and the widescreen capabilities worked well during video playback.

Although the Samsung Q70's keyboard is small, it's comfortable to use. Its only downfall is the small spacebar. This, though, is understandable due to the Samsung Q70's compact size. The trackpad is trickier to use, and dragging the pointer around proved to be hard work.

As with all of Samsung’s new notebooks, the Silver Nano Technology is present in the Samsung Q70, which means that silver ion powder is sprinkled over the keyboard to prevent bacteria from collecting there.

The battery pack protrudes from the back of the Samsung Q70, which can be inconvenient when propping it against surfaces. It also adds to the size of the Samsung Q70. But despite this, the Q70 weighs just 2kg, and will be easy to transport. Add to this the decent 105 minute battery life and this laptop will work well for those on the move.

For a portable machine the Samsung Q70 offers a reasonable amount of connectivity options. The Q70 connects to 802.11a, b and g wireless networks and has Bluetooth capabilities.

Although the Samsung Q70 features a 6-in-1 card reader, an increase on the pair of USB ports would have made it a fuller featured laptop.

OUR VERDICT

The Samsung Q70 is a highly portable option that is powerful, convenient to use and well featured. The aluminium casing heated up a little quickly but, otherwise, the Samsung Q70 had few flaws, performing well in games, battery and WorldBench testing.
