One of our few complaints about tablets of every stripe is that they don’t stand up, making touchscreen keyboard entry awkward and viewing entertainment difficult. A stand makes all the difference, but far too many are iPad-specific.

The Griffin A-Frame is marketed as being for iPad, but it works just as well with Samsung, Acer, Asus and other brands of tablet as it’s simply a hefty metal easel with an open-ended rubber ledge that accommodates your choice of tablet.

The stand folds up within the A-Frame, so it doesn’t take up much space. Its tough-as-boots construction has a downside, though: it weighs 510g. In other words, it's like packing a second tablet in your luggage. We'd also rather it was a little slimmer. When the stand is at its maximum angle of recline, the A-Frame takes up 150cm of your desk and makes for extremely comfortable e-book reading. When folded up and lying flat, however, it still occupies 30mm of vertical space - enough for a spare shirt or a paperback novel.

OUR VERDICT

The Griffin A-Frame is an easel-shaped stand that props up and supports an iPad or other tablet. Extremely solid in its construction, we really liked its simple execution and think it's one of the best value tablet stands around
