The Tagan TG780-U33II power supply is a high-end model, with a powerful 780W rating designed to cope with heavy-laden PC systems.

At £188 the Tagan TG780-U33II may seem expensive, but is also a consistently high performer.

In our tests, the Tagan TG780-U33II proved to be the most efficient PSU we've ever tested using any of our test loads, delivering an impressive 85.6 percent efficiency at 350W and 84.1 percent at 750W.

Voltages also remained good throughout all our tests. The Tagan TG780-U33II PSU is able to maintain efficient operation while delivering maximum power in a way that none of the competition could match.

However, despite its excellent performance and high power specification, the Tagan TG780-U33II is not able to support quad graphics cards due to a lack of available PCI-E connectors. While SLI certification hasn't yet been approved, Tagan claims this power supply will work just fine with dual graphics cards.

The Tagan TG780-U33II PSU's set of captive cables offers fewer connectors then we're used to, with only four SATA connectors and six hard drive connectors, although this should be adequate for most users and, anyway, unused cables usually just get in the way.

OUR VERDICT

The Tagan TG780-U33II PSU is an excellent performer, but it's a rather expensive option which lacks some of the convenient features found elsewhere, such as modular cabling.
