Of all the components in our PCs, the PSU, or power supply unit, must rank as the most neglected and unloved. For typical users, a 450W PSU will offer more than enough oomph, but some of us have more demanding needs. Enermax has the perfect product for the truly power-hungry – and if you're going to be feasting on quad graphics and CPUs, that means you.

The Galaxy's features are certainly impressive. It provides 1,000W of continuous power, easily the most we've seen. Up to 24 drives can be supported, five 12V+ rails are included, and the device can allocate the CPU its own power so as to remain as stable as possible. Enermax reckons the Galaxy's efficiency is between 80 and 85 percent.

It comes with Power Guard 4, a very nice security feature that flashes and sounds a buzzer when the device comes under severe pressure, and the modular design allows you to choose exactly what the PSU is connected to. A huge number of cables are included.

One mild complaint might be the Galaxy's size – check your case is large enough.

OUR VERDICT

Not many of you will need this much power. But for those running multiple CPUs and graphics cards, the stability, features and quiet operation of this PSU make it a great deal for the money.
