The Enforcer-X falls in the middle of the range price-wise, but delivers excellent application performance, matching CyberPower’s Cobra at nearly £2000. The system pushes the Intel Core i5-2500K from 3.3GHz up to 4.6GHz and adds to it 16GB of 1600MHz RAM, all housed in a premium Asus P8Z68-V motherboard. Scoring 217 points in WorldBench 6, the Enforcer-X is the joint fastest system in this review when it comes to application performance, despite its middle-of-the-road overclock. This is largely due to the 16GB of memory and 80GB Intel 320-series SSD. Visit Group test: What's the best £1,000 PC?

Gaming performance isn’t up to the standard of those systems fitted with an AMD Radeon 7970, but the nVidia GeForce GTX 570 used here offers a noticeable improvement of around 7-10fps over the GTX 560 Ti used in most of the lower-priced gaming PCs. The P8Z68-V motherboard supports SLI, so you could add a second GTX 570 later if you want to improve gaming speed.

The system is housed in a tidy, yet impressive Cooler Master Storm Enforcer case. It features a windowed side-panel and access to the front drive bays and DVD writer is via a large, curved hinged door. A large Titan Fenrir processor cooler is complemented by modest case fans and we were pleased to see dust-filters in place to help maintain optimum air flow over time.

Iiyama's 24in LED-backlit full-HD display includes VGA, DVI and a pair of HDMI inputs for good connectivity options; you could hook up an external Blu-ray player to make up for the lack of Blu-ray drive in the system itself.

PC Specialist has gone to town with the gaming peripherals by including a Razer Arctosa keyboard and Razer Deathadder ReSpawn mouse, both of which are designed specifically for gaming and offer improved responsiveness and programmability. These are complemented by a Logitech H350 USB headset.

OUR VERDICT

The Enforcer-X offers excellent application performance and a step-up in gaming frame rates from those equipped with the lesser GeForce GTX 560Ti graphics card. It lacks Blu-ray support but comes with a well-chosen set of gamer-oriented peripherals and a premium motherboard.
