The word ‘awesome' has lost a lot of its impact, but it's more than justifiable to use it when summing up the Ricoh Caplio R6. The unbelievably compact Ricoh Caplio R6 boasts not only a 35mm equivalent 28-200mm zoom lens, but an array of old and new features that will (quite honestly) blow you away.

The Ricoh Caplio R6 is the slimmest zoom camera in its class, and great joy can be had by simply switching the camera on and off to see the double retracting lens gracefully glide in and out. The features packed into the Ricoh Caplio R6 are too vast to list here, but include all the standard features we have come to expect from new digital cameras.

And there's a number of jaw-dropping features included in the Ricoh Caplio R6. Camera shake correction is set up as default, and can help those of us that don't always carry a tripod around. Face recognition improves every time we see it on a camera, and this is no exception - the Ricoh Caplio R6 can identify up to four faces in a shot and automatically correct the exposure, focus, and white balance to get the best picture available.

An adjust button is located on the back of the Ricoh Caplio R6, and this simplifies the settings procedure. With a few clicks you can change the exposure, white balance and ISO settings to suit. You can even assign extra settings. But the feature that impresses the most about the Ricoh Caplio R6 is, in reality, the most pointless. Skew correction mode will automatically twist and correct any rectangular object that you shoot at an angle.

OUR VERDICT

If you're after a point-and-click camera, then the Ricoh Caplio R6 isn't for you. The shutter lag is dreadful but, admittedly, can be improved by turning off the shake correction. But if you want a pocket-sized zoom camera that can handle virtually any situation, then you really, really, need to buy this.
