Once again, Palicomp comes in with a killer price for their system. Intel’s 3.3GHz Core i5-2500K, once the king of our charts, provides a huge amount of quad-core power for an office PC. It’s out-paced only by Chillblast’s new-fangled Ivy Bridge processor fitted in the same Asus P8H61-M LE/USB3 motherboard. With a score of 164 points in WorldBench 6, you’ll have more than the performance you need for a general office PC. See also Group test: What's the best budget PC?

No graphics card is supplied, because the CPU’s integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor can do the job just fine. Also included is a full 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 500GB hard drive, half the capacity of some PCs here, but certainly large enough for the job at hand. Visit Group test: What's the mid-range desktop PC?

With a price of just £399 it’s no surprise that no monitor is included, but the Phoenix Flash costs less than any other system reviewed here even when monitors are removed from the equation – and this is despite offering more power than most. Windows 7 Home Premium is supplied rather than Windows 7 Professional. Go to Group test: What's the best office PC?

If you’re looking specifically for a high-performance system, then the biggest competition comes from the Chillblast Fusion Obsidian which outpaces the Palicomp across the board, but at extra cost.

This PC comes with a copy of free OpenOffice installed, along with Ahead Nero and AVG Free antivirus.

The system is built inside a Cooler Master Elite 300 system case which is overly spacious considering the diminutive proportions of the motherboard. Keyboard and mouse are cheap-feeling wired components from Cherry.

OUR VERDICT

The Palicomp Phoenix Flash has a powerful specification for the price, but omits a monitor, decent keyboard and Windows 7 Professional.
