We wouldn't normally recommend an overclocked PC. Pushing a chip to speeds that exceed the settings recommended by the manufacturer can be a recipe for disaster. However, few companies are more adept than Chillblast at wringing that extra bit of power from a CPU. Against this backdrop, the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 chip gets a healthy boost - from its original speed of 1.86GHz right up to 2.1GHz. Combine this with the 2GB of memory, and you have one of the fastest £750 Vista PCs on the market.

Not every £750 PC comes equipped with a good screen, but the Chillblast shows off with a splendid Acer AL1916W LCD monitor. This 19in display packs in colour and precision, while its widescreen resolution of 1,440x900 is expansive. The GeForce 7900 GS isn't the best graphics chip in the chart, but it's a decent performer that crops up in three of our chosen Vista PCs. The sound system consists of the High Definition Realtek onboard controller - not a stunning addition, but only the Arbico offered anything better - while the NEC DVD writer is one of the best on the market. The 250GB hard drive isn’t particularly impressive although, in truth, this is enough storage space for most users.

OUR VERDICT

The bottom line? The Chillblast isn't the fastest Vista PC at this price point - that accolade goes to the Zoostorm 4-5404 for general performance, and to the Arbico CD7950XL for gaming capabilities - but it's a decent performer. Throw in the copy of Vista Home Premium and the excellent flat-panel (arguably the best in the chart) and this is a worthy number one buy at the £750 mark. Recommended.
