Save for a small silver strip surrounding the keypad, the MSI Megabook M670 013UK is predominantly black and its understated charms are enhanced by its extremely quiet operation. MSI claims the MSI Megabook M670 013UK's advanced cooling system helps cool the chassis through heat exchange.

We liked the large-enough-to-be-practical size of the power and quick access keys, while the MSI Megabook M670 013UK's independent numeric keypad ensures it will appeal to both business users and those with a need for an inexpensive entertainment laptop.

The MSI Megabook M670 013UK is a reasonably powerful laptop with a full-sized keyboard, decent-sized trackpad and separate numerical keypad, but it isn't too weighty or bulky. As the least expensive of the laptops we tested, MSI Megabook M670 013UK is ideal if you have a strict budget. The MSI Megabook M670 013UK offers a reasonable selection of features, providing you aren't planning on playing games.

As with the Evesham A240 (click here for the review), there's b and g wireless but no 802.11a.

You get Bluetooth but only a disappointing four-in-one card reader.

We found colours slightly dull on the MSI Megabook M670 013UK's 15.4in glossy, Colour Bright widescreen, and experienced poor viewing angles and reflection issues. The trackpad is unresponsive and its off-centre placement makes it difficult to operate, while the Enter key is too small and lies in a slightly unfamiliar position. The MSI Megabook M670 013UK has just 512MB of RAM, so it's sensible that it runs only Vista Home Basic – the version that doesn't support the Aero interface.

The MSI Megabook M670 013UK's 80GB hard drive and 1.8GHz Mobile AMD Sempron 3400+ processor earned a reasonable 37 points in our WorldBench speed tests, but games performance was appalling at 2fps (frames per second). With nVidia's GeForce Go 6100 installed we hadn't expected fireworks, but were truly shocked at such a dismal result.

OUR VERDICT

Although we loved the build and look of the ultra-cheap MSI Megabook M670 013UK laptop, we were less impressed with its test results. The games framerate result in particular is awful. But the MSI Megabook M670 013UK is refreshingly inexpensive.
