Particularly popular with PCs users but less commonly chosen by Mac fans, Sky Broadband accounted for a 10th of the customer base in our survey. Social-media mavens and online shoppers, Sky Broadband customers had less reason to log on to BBC iPlayer than others, since most people combine a satellite TV subscription with broadband and phone services.

The modular nature of Sky’s offerings meant there is no clear-cut average price paid for Sky Broadband itself. However, the most common connection speed is the 15 to 20Mbps bracket, with three quarters of customers claiming to have an unlimited download deal rather than the 20GB-a-month subscription. Most customers have been with Sky Broadband for around two years.

An 89 percent overall satisfaction rate put Sky Broadband in the running for the best bundled ISP award. However, only 66 percent of customers said they are content with the download speeds that they get – however, 88 percent of you said the connection itself is very reliable.

Most Sky customers are neutral about its technical support but, of those who had experience of it, a healthy 80 percent said it came up to scratch. Customer support is a less convincing 76 percent.

OUR VERDICT

For telly addicts, Sky is an obvious ISP choice (even at a total package price of £50-plus per month, which 23 percent claim to spend) and 74 percent would recommend it as an ISP.
