Samsung Galaxy S3 mini vs Galaxy S4 mini review
Samsung has now made the Galaxy S4 mini smartphone official and it will replace the Galaxy S3 mini.
With the Galaxy S3 mini still firmly on the market and being pushed by many of the UK's networks, you're probably wondering whether to opt for the new or old. We'll highlight the differences for you section by section to help you work out which is the right smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy S3 mini vs Galaxy S4 mini: Price
The Galaxy S3 mini, now it's been on the market a good length of time, sells for around £230 inc VAT on a SIM-free basis. This makes it a pretty cheap phone, ignoring the fact the Nexus 4 is only £9 more.
There's no price for the Galaxy S4 mini as yet so we can't make a proper comparison here. We do expect it to cost more though. After all it's a newer model with a more up-to-date specification.
A price of around £350 is our guess, but we'll update this once we know for sure.

Samsung Galaxy S3 mini vs Galaxy S4 mini: Screen
The word 'mini' doesn't seem to mean much to Samsung as both of these smartphones have a screen 4in or larger with the firm's preferred SuperAMOLED technology. Nevertheless, they are a reasonable amount smaller than flagship devices.
The Galaxy S3 mini has a 4in screen with a 480 x 800 resolution while the Galaxy S4 mini has a 4.3in display with a higher qHD resolution of 540 x 960. This means it has a higher pixel density of 256ppi compared to 233ppi.

Samsung fitted the Galaxy S3 mini with a modest 1GHz dual-core chip. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S4 uses a more impressive 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor.
The difference is slightly less in terms of memory as the Galaxy S3 mini has 1GB and the Galaxy S4 mini has 1.5GB.

Samsung Galaxy S3 mini vs Galaxy S4 mini: Storage
The Galaxy S4 comes in three storage options, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, matching the iPhone 5 – although the 16GB seems to be the only one available at the moment. Only an 8GB of the Galaxy S4 mini has been announced.
Each phone offers expansion via a microSD card slot – both accepting 64GB cards. Be aware that a fair chunk of the internal storage is taken up before you even get the device out of the box.
Our 16GB model of the Galaxy S4 has almost half the storage taken up and Samsung points out that only 5GB of the Galaxy S4 mini's storage will be available to the user.
Samsung Galaxy S3 mini vs Galaxy S4 mini: Cameras
The Galaxy S4 mini has better credentials in the photography department with an 8Mp rear facing camera and a 1.9Mp front facing camera. Each can record video in Full HD 1080p.

Each of these smartphones comes with Android Jelly Bean and Samsung's TouchWiz interface but the Galaxy S4 mini comes with a more up-to-date version – 4.2.2. The Galaxy S3 mini comes with 4.1 and will be updated to 4.2.2 but it is unlikely to be upgraded any further.
Samsung Galaxy S3 mini vs Galaxy S4 mini: Battery
The Galaxy S3 mini comes with a removable 5.6Wh (1500mAh) battery while the Samsung's Galaxy S4 mini has a larger 7Wh (1900mAh) battery. The S3 mini got us comfortably through a day of use and we expect the S4 mini will at least match this.
