OfficeSuite Pro for Android(13 euros for the full version, with an eight-euro upgrade version and a 30-day free trial) is one of a growing number of apps that try to strengthen Android's weak office-document support. OfficeSuite has an integrated file browser that allows you to view Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and PDF files on your device, SD Card, and configured Google Documents accounts. You can also create and edit Word and Excel files, but oddly enough you can save them only on your device or SD Card, not on Google Docs. If I can't send my document edits back to Google Docs, and I can't add new documents, what's the point?

As a document viewer, OfficeSuite Pro for Android is not a spectacular performer. Some document formatting, such as table headings in Word or certain PowerPoint graphics, displays improperly. PDF documents are readable but load slowly, and bookmarks don't seem to work (though you can specify a page number to view). PDF files don't have search/find capability.

Excel spreadsheets are viewable and searchable, but formulas don't always work for new entries. A spreadsheet that can't calculate formulas with new data is not very useful.

I was able to create a Word document, but the document crashed my desktop OpenOffice word processor every time I tried to open it. This is the first time I have ever encountered such behavior in OpenOffice, so I'm pretty confident that the problem originated with OfficeSuite Pro for Android.

OUR VERDICT

Frankly, I don't see any reason to choose OfficeSuite Pro for Android over competing offerings such as Documents to Go or AlwaysOnPC. OfficeSuite just doesn't function well, whereas the other apps work very well.
