I suppose if they do a 'hunter' version on a gold case I might be tempted.

It is said that the market for watches is falling as so many people have the facilities on their Smartphone.

However, as the watch is about the only socially acceptable piece of jewellery that a man can wear, I see a market for Smartwatches to replace Smartphones. All that is needed is an earpiece/mike that does not look as-if you have a mini Mars Bar strapped to the side of your head and it becoming voice opereted.

Doesn't a smart watch do sat-nav then? Not worth the proverbial carrot.

I will probably get one, then put it in a drawer for safe keeping ... like all my other watches.

If it's anything like the rest of the small bits that Apple make, like mice and Trackpads keyboards et al, it won't work and will be sent flying to the iBin. A complete waste of time. (Metaphorically speaking!) There are devices around that will do exactly as that will and probably better!!

Jaundiced MAC user!!

Quickbeam - It isn't an Apple one. It is another firm using the "I" and I suspect that Apple may be annoyed. It may have more functionality than the Sony one but Sony are not usually the cheapest. Apple are rumoured to be working on producing one.

I hope you didn't lose any of your araldite watches, in a couple of centuries, an ape like archeologist might find it and think it's been preserved in amber!

Will it work down caves? I remember quite a few years ago buying cheap LCD watches from the local shops and garages and setting them in araldite to use when caving. I might sill have a few about in the caving/climbing junk boxes.

Will they have touch screens? If so do you have to use your "pinkie" or will they be the size of touch screen mobile phones so you can use your fingers?

For the record, I'm very much in the 'I don't see the point but I kind of want one' camp. It's how I feel about tablets (and I have a couple of them...)

More importantly: sorry all posts were seen as spam on this thread for a while. It turns out we had banned the word 'watch', because a watch vendor was spamming the site! Apologies.

I love this sort of technology. When Casio brought out their first digital watch with a calculator I had one strait away and found it very useful.

Then came the programmable infrared remote control watch, brilliant I thought. Pre-program all your TV, cable box, dvd player settings and no more need to even pick up remotes. I had previously tried those all in one types of remote but they were always very unreliable.

After many hours setting up the watch for all my systems it became impossible to use. Due to having so few feature buttons you had to remember so many configurations of buttons to change between TV volume or channel or dvd on/start etc. Never used it again after a couple of days.

You could always put a smart MP3 player on a gold watch chain across your weskit.

I cannot wear a watch and have to have a pocket watch instead. However I increasingly find that I look at my mobile phone for the time. I think this is on the increase with others too as wrist watch sales are in decline.

But having said that, I often speak to myself in supermarkets and out and about,

Probably the less said about that the better spuds. Lol

In answer to the above QB question: Yes.

But having said that, I often speak to myself in supermarkets and out and about, and I get some rather strange looks?.

What's a smart watch?

Can we expect a new generation that speaks to their wrist 24/7 to evolve?

I've already got a smart watch. It does everything I want it to. Are they not satisfied with turning a mobile phone in to an all round entertainment center. They want to do the same to a normal watch.
