No - I'm not happy with the speed of my laptop. It's about 4 years old, overloaded disk space and could do with more RAM and a better processor.

...more often than not, I get a little 'nag' slider appearing at the bottom right hand corner of my screen saying 'Norton advises you that a certain program is a CPU 'big spender'. That's Ok by me.

My old Vista lap-top taken back to factory settings and Windows seven All In One PC. On boot up, Vista Lap top is faster, there after about the same.

Big difference in spec and both loaded with the same programs apart from office I use open office with vista and use the new office supplied with the all in one.

Have voted but I while I seem to manage with my Win XP I realise just how slow it is when I use my iPad.

The 'I don't have a PC or laptop' option seems a strange option to me in this poll.

But not quite as strange as the 1% that have voted for it!

We're currently at the happy point where CPU & memory on our computers is really way more than needed for the work we throw at them

5 years ago my PC, which was state of the art when I bought it, would struggle to work with the 5 megapixel images from my camera, frequently taking a couple of minutes to do a simple transformation.

Now my two year old laptop has no problems doing multiple transformations on multiple 16 megapixel images.

For most home use I don't see any real need for improvements in CPU power, I think in future we need to concentrate on infrastructure, because more and more work is going to be done on remote servers, with applications and storage in "the cloud"

What is quick and what is slow? What may be slow to me may be quick to someone else and vice versa. Are we referring to boot times, internet, program processing, data crunching eg video or games?

I'm happy with the speed most of the time but there are times when things are frustratingly slow and regrettably those times tend to be associated with this site.

Is this a two-fold question?.

Speed of PC/Laptop or Internet Connection?.

Internet Connection: Best my ISP can provide, which I accept.

PC/Laptop: Fast enough for me, not into gaming.

Yes - for my Novatech i5 laptop.

No for my PC and yes for my laptop, the pc seems to take ages to boot up these days and is not that responsive any more, mind you it is seven years old now, the new laptop is so much faster ...alB

I'm in the not really...camp.

Interestingly enough, it took about 40 seconds for the poll page to load, with messages at the bottom of the browser telling me 'waiting for (insert name of advertiser)'

But thats an internet thing.

As a local machine speed poll, I still think it's slow. But as long as it still works within reason I'm not going to give up on my 7 year old HP laptop. Every other year I have a huge backup, then fdisk, format and reinstall XP. From a clean install it's a flying machine, but after I've put in just the updates it mooches around like a dog that has eaten his masters slippers and just KNOWS it shouldnt have done it!
