Yes,my desktops are fast enough for my needs(both of them)No,my laptop is no longer fast enough(as it had a design flaw that destroyed it)I'm hoping to replace the dead laptop with i3/i5/i7 machine, which will certainly be fast enough for my needs.

It seems,i read somewhere, that Intel may be producing a faster processor geared towards laptops next year,3.2ghz has been muted, viable or not it would be amazing to configure a machine with that basis in mind.
The laptop i presently use is 2,8ghz would the difference make any difference.?
I am happy with the HP laptop i have but i would like to build my own system which would be faster with an i7 or i5 ,then again is speed an imperative.??

No - I'm not happy with the speed of my laptop. It's about 4 years old, overloaded disk space and could do with more RAM and a better processor.
Would you like me to test one of the new models for the next few years? No problem. Cheers, Phil

It should be fast as I built it myself only 6 months ago with some of the best components I could afford at that time, I know it doesn't mean a lot but on windows 7 experience it scores a respectable 7.5.

...more often than not, I get a little 'nag' slider appearing at the bottom right hand corner of my screen saying 'Norton advises you that a certain program is a CPU 'big spender'. That's Ok by me.

I put this 'budget gaming desktop PC' together thirteen months ago. The latest games (eg Far Cry 3) will probably only run at Medium settings on it, but this isn't really a problem because it isn't the so-called cutting edge games that have gotten me hooked. It's less demanding, but immensely enjoyable, games such as Mount and Blade Warband that I've racked up the hours on. I don't see this situation changing any time soon. I haven't bought a solid state hard drive, or bothered overclocking the graphics card. It's more than adequate as it is.

My old Vista lap-top taken back to factory settings and Windows seven All In One PC. On boot up, Vista Lap top is faster, there after about the same.
Big difference in spec and both loaded with the same programs apart from office I use open office with vista and use the new office supplied with the all in one.
Happy.

I usually have two computers [to hand], so while one is perhaps recording a radio program for example, I can be browsing on the other one. Most of my computers are at the limits of their speed capabilities ... but I ain't complainin'.

Have voted but I while I seem to manage with my Win XP I realise just how slow it is when I use my iPad.

Most 'slow speed' problems with laptops arise beacause for some years manufacturers failed to install sufficient RAM modules to properly handle XP Vista and even windows 7.
As others have pointed out an older laptop can often be rejuvenated by doubling or quadrupling the installed RAM modules
Nowadays that is not a problem and I am certainly happy with my recent purchases re speed

The 'I don't have a PC or laptop' option seems a strange option to me in this poll.
But not quite as strange as the 1% that have voted for it!

YES ! My 6 month old PC from Scan is faster than a greased weasel down a slide ! ( Not that I advocate the greasing of weasels , don't want the RSPCA on my case ! )

We're currently at the happy point where CPU & memory on our computers is really way more than needed for the work we throw at them
5 years ago my PC, which was state of the art when I bought it, would struggle to work with the 5 megapixel images from my camera, frequently taking a couple of minutes to do a simple transformation.
Now my two year old laptop has no problems doing multiple transformations on multiple 16 megapixel images.
For most home use I don't see any real need for improvements in CPU power, I think in future we need to concentrate on infrastructure, because more and more work is going to be done on remote servers, with applications and storage in "the cloud"

What is quick and what is slow? What may be slow to me may be quick to someone else and vice versa. Are we referring to boot times, internet, program processing, data crunching eg video or games?
I'm happy with the speed most of the time but there are times when things are frustratingly slow and regrettably those times tend to be associated with this site.

Faster than the day the day I bought it - as I've added RAm and tweaked various things without actually overclocking.
so in one respect Yes
However it is a nearly eight year old machine so in another No
Maybe I'll get that i5 Chillblast I keep looking at and see what modern speed is all about.

Is this a two-fold question?.
Speed of PC/Laptop or Internet Connection?.
Internet Connection: Best my ISP can provide, which I accept.
PC/Laptop: Fast enough for me, not into gaming.

I have answered 'Not Really' but this is in relation to my MacBook Pro i7 8gb Laptop. It is ridiculously slow at loading applications. For an i7 it is rubbish.
If I was to answer the same question about my Lenovo B560 Win 7 Pentium Dual Core 8gb, the answer would be 'Yes'. Brilliant machine.... why did I go Mac?
Anyone want a 4 month old i7 MacBook Pro?

No for my PC and yes for my laptop, the pc seems to take ages to boot up these days and is not that responsive any more, mind you it is seven years old now, the new laptop is so much faster ...alB

I'm in the not really...camp.
Interestingly enough, it took about 40 seconds for the poll page to load, with messages at the bottom of the browser telling me 'waiting for (insert name of advertiser)'
But thats an internet thing.
As a local machine speed poll, I still think it's slow. But as long as it still works within reason I'm not going to give up on my 7 year old HP laptop. Every other year I have a huge backup, then fdisk, format and reinstall XP. From a clean install it's a flying machine, but after I've put in just the updates it mooches around like a dog that has eaten his masters slippers and just KNOWS it shouldnt have done it!
