Luckily I had taken my common sense card out out with me when I tried this one out last Monday! Of course that doesn't mean that I don't still want it.

It's true that cars are bocoming High Tech what with blue tooth and electronic gear change.Spart from that my most expensive item has been the top Yamaha keyboard which I keep up to date every two years by trading in the previous version. The latest one is the TYROS4 which is retailing at roughly £3,500 with stand and speakers. Check it out on You Tube by looking for 'TELMO3190', or 'robbiedoes'.

Without doubt my camera/s plus associated equipment. Selling two of my lenses at secondhand prices would allow me to purchase several large screen TVs

I bought a new Sony DVD player just after the verboten holiday period and that was just £39.99, the one it replaced cost £350 8 years ago.

Modern high spec cameras have to be traded up yearly of will lose more than 3/4s of their value very quickly after that. Phones devalue even quicker, 6 monthly. Film cameras that used to hold a good value from the pro user to the amateur are now worthless.

I no longer upgrade or regularly replace a computer, I just buy what's needed at the time and keep it until it breaks or the OS becomes antiquated. They now keep up with the times for longer.

I'm surprised no-one's talked about the difference between new price and current value. In the past, those camera bodies bought by carver and Blackhat would have held their value or even increased. I doubt if that is true now.

I'm sure quite a few people have got £300 DVD players that would cost £30 to replace.

HTC smartphone that I don't use as a phone, but tells me where I am, a Fuji camera that tells me to get out more, and a jazz bass that keeps saying, try harder & don't give up the day job anytime soon.

I thought it would be a computer, but all of the above each cost more than that did.

Definitely camera, must have bought same body as Blackhat. I hate to think how much it's all worth, if wife finds out I may never be around long enough to post here again

About four years ago, when my doctor told me he thought I was deaf, I agreed and he sent me to the audiology department of my local hospital in Southport, for a hearing test. The appointment took about two weeks to materialise and the actual test took about three quarters of an hour at a guess. I walked out about 90 minutes after walking in, with a brand new hearing aid in my right ear and was due back a week later to have the left ear fitted.(a mould had to be made for that ear because I was deafer in that one than the right ear). My hearing improved about 70% I would think and it never cost me a penny. I go back for free batteries when ever I require them. Once after being caught in a deluge and therefore having the gadget give up the ghost because it had got rather wet. I was given a free replacement. Then a few months later I accidentally dropped the same one in to the washing up water. This time I told the audiologist that I must pay for it as it was my fault for being so stupid. So a new one cost me £70. Then about two weeks ago I went for a checkup and they told me that the model of hearing aid I was using had been superseded by a new model and that if I could come back for a test I would be supplied with the new model. So I now have two brand spanking new hearing aids fitted and working a treat. At no stage has it cost me any money other than when I volunteered to buy a new replacement for the one I had damaged. So I can't understand why people are paying exorbitant prices for hearing aids. Is it a postcode lottery thing I wonder? (By the way it is a shock when you first start wearing them because the least sound is multiplied so much. Having a widdle in the toilet sounds like the Niagara Falls). (TM Info I suppose.)

The exclusion of TVs is interesting. I've got eight TVs in the house. The most expensive cost less than half what my desktop cost and the total for all eight is still less than the £500 desktop.

I'm not sure it's about how much technology / widgets cost, but rather how much it's used, and if it's used to its full potential. I'd think my top two expensive widgets are my telescope (£1500) and camera kit (dare not say how much in case the wife reads this thread!). I'm no where near using either to their full potential.....yet. But they both get used a lot, and commonly in conjunction with one another.

I am with Pine Man as over the past two months my car has cost me a fortune, despite significant help from both the manufacturer and my garage. Electrics and electronics in a modern all singing, all dancing motor are a real problem when they go wrong.

I can't remember just how much each cost, but I'd say it's a tie between my desktop PC, Laptop & camera.

Group together though, the CCTV kit I just installed after the guy three doors down was attacked and killed in his own home probably tops the league, although much of it was liberated from the repairs department at work...
