My Virgin cable broadband is brilliant. On the up 30MB broadband I usually get between 26 & 32MB - yes 32MB. I have never got less than 17.5MB when I was on up to 20MB.

Had Virgin over 2 years and called tech support twice. An engineer came round next day and fixzed the problem.

We have talk talk and are very happy with it. 24mb telephone exchange, 40gb download anytime talk, phone line and 100 minutes to mobiles for well under£30 a month.

It takes some beating.:-)

I think your friend should check again, it was supposed to be a free upgrade to 10mbs. Are you sure she didn't ask for something other than the 10mbs. I think the 2 - 10 upgrade was done in the background. They started off informing people but eventually just did it as in my BIL's case and didn't tell him.

I assume your friend gets BB via Cable not by phone line.

I was upgraded from 2 to 10 mb by VM for free some time ago but my next door friend was still on 2 mb recently. I suggested she ask VM why and they said it would upgrade but charge extra fee. How unfair.

I think you'll find that VM upgraded all 2mb users to 10mb quite a while ago. My Brother in Law was under the same impression till a couple of weeks ago when I showed him how to check his speeds.

I am with this provider as I was told it was free, but I still get bills(nowhere near as large as I got from BT)

I used to care what my speed was as I used to download lots, but now all I require is a live connection(unfortunately, this provider cannot be relied on to provide that)It is very frustrating to constantly get disconnected at varying times whilst online gaming, but I grin & bear it as the cost is low enough to keep me with TalkTalk. If the disconnection is longer than a few minutes,I now simply plug-in my smartphone to the desktop & use its inbuilt BB modem(which seems ballistic speedwise to my wired phoneline)I also cannot be bothered with the hassle of switching Providers,as despite many previous promises of "its painless" I have been internet-free for anything between a few hours to over 6mths.

I always liked a quote from one of the Dilbert strips

"Information is speeding towards your brain like a firehose aimed at a teacup"

I did the test twice today, once at work and once at home. At work we're around 1 mile from our ISP's offices and get 2mbps download and 0.45mbps upload.

At home I live quite a rural area and our phone line is at least 3 miles from the exchange - I can see a mile of it winding round our site as it's barely buried on the gravel. My speed at home is 8.9mbps download and 0.72mbps upload, and that test was taken 10 minutes ago, so is at peak iPlayer viewing time.

I've just done the test and discovered that I'm on nearly 8mbs when I thought I was still on 2mbs. My brain seems to be coping quite well with the increased speed that it now has to keep up with.

p.s. My £100 hasn't arrived yet, who do I write to?

Done both but fail to understand why today of all days the speed test showed I was getting around 50% of my package download; more usual is 10% - 15%. Must be the time of day I suppose.

I'm quite happy with Virgin's cheapest & slowest BB through a fibre optic cable, compared to 56kbs phoneline or a dongle, it's like lightening to me, and still miuch faster than my though process.

No point in anything faster than a human brain is there:)
