How to use Windows Task Scheduler

Schedule events in Windows to run as and when you choose

Windows is jam-packed full of little tools and programs that you rarely hear about, but are incredibly useful for those everyday tasks.

One such application is the Task Scheduler. As the name implies this nifty little application allows you to schedule certain events to run as and when you choose.

To get started go to search and type Task Scheduler and click on the Schedule tasks option in the Settings results. Let’s say you want your laptop to open an application automatically in the morning so it's ready for you to start work immediately. Click on Create Basic Task, give the task an appropriate name and click on Next. Select Daily, click on Next then set the task to recur everyday at your chosen time. Now select Start a program, click on Browse to select the application and then Finish. Now your chosen software will startup automatically for you everyday.

This is just one very basic introduction to what the Task Scheduler can do and with a little digging you can automate all sorts of things. If you click on Create Task in place of Create Basic task you’ll find a host of other options and there are hundreds of pre-defined tasks in the Task Scheduler Library split down by type. This relatively unknown and tiny Windows application can make getting tedious repetitive things on your PC much simpler to control and automate.
