Computex 2008 to get new venue

It’s impossible to do Computex’s four main halls and 3,000 booths justice in a week, and so I was slightly concerned to learn that the show will be much bigger next year.

Plans are in place to open an additional exhibition centre in Taipei to provide extra space for companies that weren’t able to book a booth this year, and those that wanted a bigger presence on the show floor than was available. The new location will increase the available space to 5,000 booths – not quite on a par with Germany’s CeBIT exhibition, but enough to help back up Computex’s organisers claim that the Taipei event could become the world’s most productive IT trade show.

Exhibitors already expect to do billions of dollars worth of business on the back of Computex, which is the most conveniently located technology show for the thousands of computer equipment makers based in Taiwan and China. The extra space could underline Computex’s status as a must for buyers and sellers of IT equipment. But it will also lengthen the taxi queues, boost competition for hotel rooms and increase the number of blisters on the feet of visitors determined not to miss anything!
