Robocops to clean the streets by 2084

A Sheffield academic believes that robot police will be patrolling the streets of Britain within 75 years.

According to Professor Noel Sharkey, groups of Robotic Peelers will detect weapons, batter villains and generally cleanse the streets by 2084.

Mad Professor Sharkey may be known to fans of TV geekfest Robot Wars, which suggests that his Robocops will be assembled from discarded lawn mowers and shopping trollies. But, in fact, Sharkey says the robots will have human-like features and expressions.

Professor Sharkey predicts that the robot patrols will patrol the mean streets by 2084. And he didn't just make it up, oh no. This startling verdict is the result of a 'two-month research project' to arrive at his findings.

With super strength and unable to feel pain, Professor Sharkey's army of Robocops will be able to recognise and clamp down on drunken violence and aggressive behaviour. Rather like, you know, policemen.
