The days of capturing grumpy looking folk in your photos may be a thing of the past, if the new technology Olympus has added to its new cameras lives up to its hype.
The Olympus SP-560 UZ, mju 802, mju 1200, FE-280 and FE-300 all feature the new Smile Shot scene mode which works out whether people in the shot you’ve just composed are smiling. It waits until everyone has an appropriately cheesy grin before taking the photograph.
Building on the face-detection features now found in a number of compact digital cameras, Olympus’ new cameras can identify people in a frame and automatically focuses on their faces while optimising exposure settings. When the subject in the shot begins to smile the Smile Shot technology detects these changes in expression and takes three images.
The fun doesn’t end there though as the new Olympus models also come with Face Focus. This highlights the face against a blurred background and Funny Face which creates amusing distortions of the face.
Now all weneed to for someone to develop a technology to detect when your eyes are open in photos.
