Opinion: Kobo Vox 'Social eReader' to Battle Kindle Fire, Nook Color
A three-way bare knuckler is underway in the 7-inch color eReader market. Kobo today unveiled its new $200 Kobo Vox, the company's first color eReader that matches up nicely (on paper, at least) with Amazon's $200 Kindle Fire, which starts shipping next month.

Opinion: SideBySide Lets You Play Games Against Friends With...Projectors?
If you cast your mind back to May this year, you can probably recall MotionBeam, a prototype gaming system that uses a projector as a controller of sorts. While the interactive projection idea was pretty impressive, it was still in the early stages of development. But since then, the team at Disney Research and Carnegie Mellon University have added a cool new feature: multiplayer support.

Opinion: Kindle Fire Teardown Pegs Price at $209.63
A teardown of Amazon's Kindle Fire revealed that the total cost of building one tablet is $10 more expensive than the price of the device, which means that, for a while at least, it'll be selling at a loss. But that's exactly what Amazon wants.

Opinion: Copy files from your Mac to your Kindle
After I detailed the ins and outs of the new generation of Kindles on Thursday, I got a letter from Macworld reader Gerald A. Wingrove, who is intrigued by the Kindle but unclear how it works with his Mac. Since this is Macworld, after all, I thought it was worth a refresher about how the Kindle and the Mac interact. Gerald writes:

Opinion: Apple's iPhone Event: 5 Things to Watch For
Apple's iPhone event on Tuesday is about more than just new hardware. The company is at a crossroads, with Steve Jobs out as CEO and with big changes coming to iOS via iCloud. Apple watchers will want to pay close attention, because whatever happens on Tuesday will have greater implications beyond the iPhone 5.

Opinion: The iPod Classic is Headed to the Tech Dustbin
Ten years ago in October, Apple announced a game-changing device: the $400 5GB iPod Classic. This Tuesday the iPod Classic (now $250 with 160GB storage), with its signature click wheel design and massive storage capacity, is rumored to play its last digital tune. All signs point to Apple discontinuing iPod Classic as it focuses on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Opinion: 3D Printing Helps Create Cool, Intricate Sculptures
The power of 3D printing has brought many great projects to life--just look at the delicious chocolate printer, or perhaps the machine capable of printing out blood vessels. 3D printing is even becoming useful in the arts, as the quirky Crania Anatomica Filigre project by Joshua Harker proves.

Opinion: Kindle Touch Looks Like a Winner at $99
Lost in Wednesday's Kindle Fire hoopla was the fact that Amazon also launched three new e-readers: the $79 Kindle; $99 Kindle Touch; and $149 Kindle Touch 3G. Unlike their predecessors, which Amazon will continue to sell (for now), none of the new models have a physical keyboard.

Opinion: RIP iPod? Not So Fast
As the iPod’s 10-year anniversary looms next month, some are preparing to say goodbye to the popular media player credited for boosting Apple’s fortunes over the past decade. But don’t shed a tear for the iPod. Even though the line has not received any groundbreaking updates lately, the iPod lives on in Apple’s touchscreen devices.

Opinion: Tagg Keeps Your Pets Safe with GPS and Mobile Technology
If you're a pet owner, you've probably experienced that moment of dread when you come home and your dog or cat isn't anywhere to be found. Don't you wish you could send them a text and ask them where they are? It might sound ridiculous, but a new gadget coming can almost let you do just that. The Tagg Pet Tracker by Snaptracs, a subsidiary of Qualcomm, uses the power of GPS and mobile technologies to help you keep track of your furry friends.

Opinion: Fanny Wang Headsets Big Hits with NFL Big Hitters
If the steady line of autograph-hungry Fanny Wang headset fans at a Manhattan electronics store was any indication, these new bass-boosting over-the-ear headsets may give Monster Cable's DJ-friendly Beats by Dr. Dre headset a run for its money. At least that's what Fanny Wang CEO Tim Hickman hopes.

Opinion: You Can Now Borrow Kindle Books from Libraries
In a surprise move Wednesday, Amazon announced that 11,000 libraries throughout the United States are now able to loan books to Amazon Kindles. While libraries have been able to lend e-books to readers for some time now, this is the first time they've been able to do it in the Kindle format.

Opinion: Printable Blood Vessels Are Here
Earlier this year, a group of researchers at Cornell University began to explore how 3D printing could be used to create replacement body parts, and said that it might be possible within 20 years. But the BioRap project may have beaten the projection by a good 19 years. Sort of.

Opinion: Nonsense: Of Course PS Vita's Not Hitting the US Dec. 31
It seems some in the media are comfortable speculating about the PS Vita's release date yet this year, right up to the point of phony baloney headlines based on obvious non sequiturs. ZDNet noticed Amazon's placeholder release date--December 31, 2011--for the PlayStation Vita and Wii U after reading a bizarrely straight-faced Washington Post story, and decided, well, that it was newsworthy...in the face of overwhelming evidence (and official word) otherwise.

Opinion: Amazon's Color Slate: Tablet or eReader?
It reportedly runs Android, has a 7-inch color touchscreen, and carries a boatload of hooks into Amazon's online content. Some pundits are calling it a potential iPad killer--heady praise for a product that hasn't been announced. But given its expected feature set, is Amazon's new slate a tablet or an e-reader?
