New gaming iPhone goes for Wii

Apple 'to clash with Nintendo'

Is there anything Apple's iPhone can't do?

Not content with making calls, taking photos, browsing the web, being an iPod, keeping up with share prices and weather reports, and being the coolest-looking toy on the planet, the iPhone is soon to take on the Sony PSP and forthcoming mobile Nintendo Wii by tacking on games functionality.

According to the New York Times Apple has been "secretly plotting" its foray into portable video games for months. Apple is expected to make a gaming announcement soon.

On top of that, the interesting but currently rather limited Apple TV has architecture specially created for video games.

It now appears that Nintendo's moves to patent its tilt sensitivity on its portable Nintendo DS is aimed at blocking similar Wii-like gaming in the iPhone, which boasts a motion-based accelerometer.

Why doesn't Nintendo just add phone, camera, music, weather, shares, email and web browsing to the DS? And get Jonathan Ive to redesign it...
