AOC Intros 16-Inch Portable Display for Laptop Users

Can't stand your laptop's tiny screen? Try AOC's new 16-inch portable monitor.

Laptops, tablets, and smartphones are getting thinner and smaller, but not everyone is happy with shrinking screen sizes.

If you're used to working with large desktop displays or multiple monitors, AOC's new portable USB monitor might make a very valuable laptop accessory. The 16-inch AOC e1649fwu monitor is the size of a typical notebook screen, and is powered entirely off of one USB port.

Road warriors may applaud the lack of a power plug, but it's also a double-edged sword, because the e1649fwu display draws its power from your laptop. The display has a 1366 by 769 pixel resolution and five millisecond response time, with 5 million:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The resolution's a bit low for this screen size, but this is a portable monitor running off of a USB port.

There are other portable monitors on the market, and even a $5 app that turns your iPad into a second display (more cost-effective if you already own an iPad and much easier to lug around, albeit with even less screen real estate). AOC's is one of the biggest ones available that still manages to be portable at 2.3 pounds and 1.4 inches thick.

Ready to complete your mobile office? The AOC USB monitor can be yours in October for $139, according to the press release.
