Not content with revealing the men and women of each year (Bill Gates? Cool? If you say so...) US magazine Time has unveiled its take on the 50 coolest websites around. We can only assume that PCAdvisor.co.uk was relegated to 51st place for speeding in the pit-lane. Or something.

It's easy to be sniffy about such an unscientific approach to awards giving (who made Time the arbitrator of what's hot and what's not?) but the list certainly contains some hot PCA favourites.

Digg, YouTube and MySpace are all pretty obvious examples of savvy, zeitgeisty web publishing. And young people seem to like them, so that's cool.

And we're pleased to see McAfee Site Advisor and Google Spreadsheets given due reward. They're useful tools, but are they really cool? (Mental note: never go out drinking with the Time team.)

So how does the magazine itself justify such choices? "Many of this year's choices are shining examples of Web 2.0: next-generation sites offering dynamic new ways to inform and entertain, sites with cutting-edge tools to create, consume, share or discuss all manners of media, from blog posts to video clips." Which, to be fair, does sound pretty cool.
