Google's Gmail Blue April Fools' spoof becomes a reality

On April Fools' Day Google 'revealed' an all-blue look for Gmail. Now, the prank is a reality by way of a swiftly developed Chrome extension

Google "announced" a new all-blue version of Gmail as part of its extensive April Fools' Day efforts. But the fake April 1st gag is now a reality thanks to a swiftly developed Chrome add-on.

Created by student developer Shlomo Dalezman the Chrome extension, which you can download from the Chrome Web Store, does exactly what you would expect--it turns your Web-based Gmail experience very very blue.

In a blog post on the official Gmail Blog the Google team "introduced" the blue theme by way of a tongue-in-cheek introduction video. The spoof feature makes all buttons, characters and menus various shades of blue.

Of course, the phony Gmail Blue presentation video, which has clocked up more than three million views on YouTube, was just one of Google's many April Fools' jokes. Google's other japes included the likes of scent-based search results via Google Nose and a smartphone-powered mobile ATM.

One glowing user review said that their "Gmail experience has literally improved 100 fold" after installing the add-on. We'll let you decide for yourself.
