Zombieland pilot, 12 others due to shamble onto Amazon

Amazon has given the go-ahead for a pilot based on cult film Zombieland

The pay video content space is going increasingly crazypants as platforms become content creators and creators become platforms. And in that vein, onetime online bookstore Amazon has announced that it will be bringing a TV series based on the cult horror-comedy-angsty flick Zombieland to its Amazon Prime Instant Video service.

The company announced that it will create a pilot episode of the Zombieland series along with 12 other pilots (six other comedy pilots, and six children's programs). Amazon will decide whether to go ahead with full seasons for each series based on user feedback. The initial pilots will be made available for free on Amazon Instant Video and the Amazon-owned LoveFilm.com. If selected by users, the full seasons would appear on Amazon's subscription based all-you-can-eat Prime Instant Video service.

Unfortunately, while none of the original film's cast will be returning for the proposed series (including Bill Murray who had one of the greatest cameos in film history), the pilot will be penned by the film's writers, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick.

In addition to Zombieland, Amazon will offer the pilot of six other comedy shows: Alpha House, BrowsersDark Minions, Onion News Empire, Supanatural, and Those Who Can't. Additionally, the company has six children's series are also currently in production: Galaxy, Oz Adventures, Teeny Tiny Dogs, Tumbleaf, Sara Solves It, and The Untitled J.J. Johnson Project.
