PC Advisor readers back Google Street View

A threat to our privacy, a tool for criminals or, quite simply, a complete waste of time and effort? Google Street View's UK launch earlier this month has sparked fierce debate about surveillance society and what gives the world's largest search engine the right to put photos of our homes and streets on the internet for all to see.

But PC Advisor readers have broadly backed the tool, with 73 percent of those who answered our online poll giving Street View the thumbs up.

Twenty nine percent said the service was 'A great idea' with various uses, while 16 percent described it as 'Addictive, and a great way to waste time online'. A further 28 percent said that while Google Street View offered no clear benefits, it was 'worth a look'.

Just over one in four criticised the tool, with 8 percent calling it a 'complete waste of time', and 18 percent backing the privacy activists who believe it should be 'taken offline immediately'.
