Accidental online monogamy leads to shock, pain, divorce

A married couple received a bittersweet surprise recently, when they discovered that they were inadvertently conducting a tender online affair with one another.

The Bosnian lovebirds plan to celebrate the occurrence - which others might view as a miraculous and richly ironic affirmation of their suitability as partners - by divorcing.

Finding that the spark had gone out of their marriage, Adnan and Sana Klaric turned to internet chat forums for solace, each separately discovering a stranger seemingly able to understand, console and care for them.

"I thought I had found the love of my life," said Sana. "The way this Prince of Joy spoke to me, the things he wrote, the tenderness in every expression was something I had never had in my marriage."

(Prince of Joy was Adnan's online pseudonym, which might sound like grounds for divorce to you or me but probably sounds better in Bosnian. Or in English if Bosnian is your first language. In any case, Sana's was almost as bad: Sweetie.)

Caught up in their virtual passion, the pair decided to meet up in person, for purposes that a less family-oriented blog than this might delve into more deeply. But disaster struck.

"We arranged to meet outside a shop," explains Sana, "and both of us would be carrying a single rose so we would know the other. When I saw my husband there with the rose and it dawned on me what had happened I was shattered. I felt so betrayed. I was so angry."

Yeah, how annoying. You've discovered - via a coincidence so mathematically improbable it would make Carol Vorderman tear up her third-class degree - that you're passionately (and mutually) in love with someone you're handily already married to. Life's so unfair, isn't it?
