Hilary Clinton, Apple ad storms YouTube

A mashup of Apple's iconic '1984' TV ad, that replaces 'Big Brother' (the Orwell character, not the Jade Goody vehicle) with Hilary Clinton, is causing a political brouhaha in the States.

Presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign team insists it's not behind the clip, which has garnered a million views on YouTube.

Where Apple's original advert marketed a computer, the remixed video replaces Big Brother with images of Obama's rival candidate Hillary Clinton. It ends when an iPod-wearing female athlete smashes the screen displaying Mrs Clinton/Big Brother, revealing an Obama campaign logo – not the Apple logo of the original. It's stirring stuff.

Obama's spokespeople insist that his campaign had nothing to do with the film, and for its part Apple seems less than bothered about its ad being nicked.

Even if we take Obama's people at their word, his campaign has already shown decent new-media savvy. Only the other day we reported on how much more popular the senator is than his rival boasting considerably more MySpace friends.

(Sadly, both candidates have more friends than PC Advisor. Still, so does Meat Loaf, and a vote for PCA is a vote for better IT provision.)
