There's no such thing as a free lunch…

…or a free computer for that matter. Hold the front page!

Receiving for the zillionth time a popup advert promising a PC for nothing, PC Advisor's landlord (we all live together in a massive mansion called PCA Towers) decided just for once to call the bluff. Umpteen clickthroughs later, he had signed up for five DVD rental services and pretty much worn out his left mouse button and patience – and what do you know? The trail stopped. Nowhere to go. No free PC.

What is the world coming to when you can't trust fly-by-night internet hucksters?

Thanks to our landlord's spirit of scientific inquiry, you can avoid making this particular mistake in future, but how can we keep our readers safe from all the other ne'er-do-wells plying their fiendish trade on the information superhighway? Well for a start, you can develop a healthy dose of cynicism, just like us. If it sounds too good to be true, as we keep saying, it probably is.
